West Brunswick got caught in the divide caused by the expiration of the Quintipartite Deed and amalgamation of East Jersey and West Jersey.

Over the next hundred years, district administration would switch back and forth between Middlesex and Somerset Counties, until the ultimate dissolution of the township after failure to adopt the Faulkner Act (N.J.S.A 40:69A-1[1], et seq.).

The town is perhaps most well known for the being the location of the founding of many top Companies, as well as the birthplace of influential people.  It was also home Fort McMyerson, a joint military intelligence base located in the unincorporated outskirts of what was once West Brunswick Township.  Long after the township itself was dissolved, the base remained active, bearing the town's mailing address. The base was decommissioned in 1990
